Trailcast 06 - Appalachian Trail Museum

Well, it’s been a few weeks, but Trailcast is back and I’m talking with Kent and Theresa Wilson about their efforts to create a Museum about the Appalachian trail. The museum will attempt to include information and artifacts about almost every aspect of the trail including perspectives from thru-hikers both past and current.

Trailcast 04 - Tim Ernst & The Ozark Highlands Trail

Tim ErnstThe Ozark Highlands Trail is a 165 mile long trail, meticulously routed through scenic areas of the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and maintained by a large group of volunteers.  The trail is well-blazed and has mile markers.  It crosses a great deal of streams and is hikeable year-round– with excellent thru-hiking opportunities.

Gilford Bush (train-name Troll) is one of the Louisiana Hiking Club’s highest mileage hikers. In 2002 he thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail. Enduring several cold and wet nights at the beginning of his hike, he learned some lessons about gear, the trail and how “just getting mad” about finishing the trail made the difference. He continues to hike large sections of the AT and is starting one this season.

I couldn’t think of a better way to inaugurate the first program of Trailcast than a conversation with Janet Hensley, of the must-stop hiker-hostel, “Miss Janet’s House” in Erwin, TN around mile 338 on the Appalachian Trail.
