Trailcast 02 - Hiker Gilford Bush

Gilford Bush (train-name Troll) is one of the Louisiana Hiking Club’s highest mileage hikers. In 2002 he thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail. Enduring several cold and wet nights at the beginning of his hike, he learned some lessons about gear, the trail and how “just getting mad” about finishing the trail made the difference. He continues to hike large sections of the AT and is starting one this season.

This guy is really funny. Very intertaining interview with one of those older wiley dudes from the trail.

Troll! Is that you? We met at Rainbow Springs campground - the bunkhouse - in March ‘02, I was section hiiking. RB Springs shuttled me forward to NOC to walk back to my car at Rainbow Springs.
By chance, we camped together. It was an old apple orchard not too far from Cold Spring shelter. You came through well after dark, and cowboy camped near my green tarp. It rained during the night and I made you drag your bedroll under the shelter. It’s a small world, isn’t it? I successfully thru-hiked in ‘03. That March hike helped me alot, coping with the cold and wet. Glad you survived to do it all, and glad you’re hanging in there. Jan

Great article. I am just sad I dont know how to reply properly, though, since I want to show my appreciation like many other.
