Trailcast 11 - Miss Janet & Jan Leitschuh

Jan LeitschuhIt’s been a few months since I’ve published a program, but Trailcast is back, and rolling. In this program, I spoke with Jan Leitschuh. She thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2003– one of the wettest seasons on record for the AT. Jan’s trail journal is amazingly popular, as her hit counter, showing close to 400,000 hits, can attest.

Jan’s journal was one of the first trail journals I read, and I followed it as she hiked. Often, other trail journal-writers lose momentum in keeping a log of their hike, and ultimately their entries become almost military-dry reports of daily mileage, food intake, and trail-names encountered. Jan kept an honest and detailed account throughout her hike. Miss Janet co-hosted this interview with me. For those of you who have never heard of Miss Janet, check out Trailcast Program 01.

The Jan and Janet show was great. Liteshoe not only writes a terrific journal she talks a terrific interview. Thoroughly enjoyed it. (Also enjoyed the backwards-running counter prank.) Looking forward to the Baltimore Jack interview. This whole podcast thing is wonderful. Thanks for doing it.

I am very glad TrailCast is back. However, it is giving me an aweful case of Springer Fever! I particularly enjoyed this episode, and the way you mixed it up with Jan LightShoe and Miss Janet. As always, great job.

Thanks to Jan “Liteshoe” I had an opportunity to listen to your recent show, enjoyed the contents, especially since I spent time at Miss Janet’s Hostel in 2003 and hiked through seven states with Liteshoe. The hiking community is in need of a common media and I believe Trailcast can offer the opportunity. Looking forward to the Baltimore Jack interview. Also, I am not as cantankerous as Jan led you to believe.

  6. Notes Says:

Itchy? Cantankerous? Noooooooooo, never, not Itchyfoot! Crumpy, crabby, prickly, touchy, snapish, surly or bearsh…But never, EVER cantankerous!

Great trailcast, Shoe! I loved every minute of you and Miss Janet reflecting on hiking the AT. I listened to it from my iPod as I hiked the mountain behind my apartment building here in Busan, South Korea. The mountains here are a lot like the mountains in North Georgia, so it felt sorta like the many days you and I hiked together.

  7. Bonifacius Says:

Great article. I am just sad I dont know how to reply properly, though, since I want to show my appreciation like many other.
