Jackie McDonnell, trail-named Yogi, publishes a popular guidebook for the Pacific Crest Trail. Her guidebook is designed to assist an aspiring thru-hiker and covers every topic imaginable. Jackie, a Triple Crown hiker, is also planning on publishing a Guidebook for the Continental Divide Trail. In our conversation, Jackie talks about her publishing projects, and experiences on PCT, CDT and AT and speaks about the differences between these three long trails..

Very good interview with a very knowledgeable long distance hiker. I had the good fortunate to meet Yogi on several occasions and my impression is that not only is she a great hiker, but also a genuinely nice person. Yogi’s very well written PCT Guide book will provide the needed information for planning a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail.

It was really neat to hear Yogi after several years of following her treks on trailjournals.
She has written an almost essential guide for the PCT which I ordered for my thru hike this spring.

Trailcast is just an excellent way of getting to hear straight from the horses mouth all the little bits and pieces of information and advice we’ve picked up from here or there from some experienced people. Thanks to Robert and Yogi for this interview which is really great for allowing us to see that some of the great thru-hikers of the world are quite a lot like us regular joes.

Current line in Vegas is 7:1 that Yogi will spend this summer in KC applying makeup, batting her eyelashes, and lounging in the air conditioning sipping tasty beverages.
